Jonathon Chambers

Jonathon Chambers – Doctor and Medical Director

I have worked at Barrington Medical Centre for over 25 years, which goes along with my philosophy of the family GP and continuity of care. I enjoy General Practice and the wide range of people, both young and old and the huge variety of medical conditions we see.

I have a diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in the practice here do some minor gynaecological procedures, such as fitting IUCD's(such as Mirena) and Pipelle Biopsies.

I have an interest in minor surgery for skin conditions and do excisions of skin lumps and bumps.

Although my books are closed to new patients, I do take referrals from other doctors for these procedures. One of my hobby horses is punctuality. I tend to run very much to time and will give a discount if I feel people have had to wait an unreasonable period. Of course to run to time, I expect patients to arrive on time.

Outside of work, I am a passionate skier and in summer do a lot of boating, fishing and free diving.

Oliver Kiddle

Oliver Kiddle – Doctor

Originally from Nelson, I graduated from Auckland in 2000 and worked in Nelson and Masterton before travelling abroad with my wife. I subsequently completed General Practice training in the United Kingdom.

After having twins we decided it was time to get back to New Zealand and I joined the friendly team at Barrington Medical Centre. Since then I have gained Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and enjoyed getting to know my enrolled patients.

I like all aspects of General Practice, particularly the variety the work entails and the continuity of care the job involves. When not at work I spend most of my time chasing after our young children who love getting up to mischief. I also enjoy travelling, reading and getting out into the great outdoors that New Zealand has to offer.

Rebecca Buchan

I grew up in Christchurch and have lived in Somerfield most of my life. I moved to Dunedin to go to University and completed a science degree before studying Medicine. After graduating in 2003, I spent several years at Christchurch Hospital before moving into General Practice.

I love working in General Practice because of the long-term relationships you can form with patients and their families, and the wide variety of conditions you treat. My special interests are Child Health, Musculoskeletal conditions and Preventative Medicine.

When not at work I enjoy reading, exercising, travelling and being a mother.

Annabel White

Annabel White – Doctor

I was born in Nelson, gained my medical degree from Otago in 1991 and took up General Practice in 1999.

Although I have enjoyed working and living in many different parts of New Zealand, I am very pleased to be back in the South Island, having moved here from New Plymouth in 2007.

I have three children, and we live in Spreydon which is nice and close to work! Outside of work, I enjoy skiing and tramping and running, but am quite keen on chilling out in a cafe also! I like the whole spectrum of general practice and enjoy working with the experienced team at Barrington.

Srimala Kumarapaapillai

Srimala Kumarapaapillai – Doctor

Having been born in Sri Lanka, then spending most of my adult life in South Africa, and having made New Zealand my home for the past four years, I find people endlessly fascinating! I never tire of experiencing the different cultures, the languages or the food, wherever I travel!

Coming from a strongly medical family (second of three generations of doctors!), I enjoy all aspects of the GP world. My extensive experience working in hospitals, both in South Africa and New Zealand, especially in Paediatrics, allows me to be comfortable with all the different facets of family health care.

I love watching sports, playing scrabble and attempting DIY projects around the house. Reading is a lifelong passion. However, my husband is still my biggest passion, while my daughter is my pride and joy!

Joseph Lau

Joseph Lau – Doctor

Malaysian by birth, Chinese by descent, Kiwi by choice, I have been in New Zealand since 1995.

I studied in Burnside High and obtained my medical degree from Otago in 2002. After spending five years working in Christchurch Public Hospital in various medical specialties, I moved into General Practice and have enriched my experience by doing locum work at numerous clinics throughout Christchurch.

Following that, I am now delighted to be working amongst the friendly and supportive team at Barrington Medical Centre.

Outside of work, I am married with young children. I enjoy eating good food (including my wife's cooking), watching movies, working out at the gym and having regular games of badminton.

Kay Joyce

Kay Joyce – Doctor

I qualified as a doctor in the United Kingdom, graduating from London in 1988. Initially I spent several years in hospital medicine before moving towards training as a General Practitioner. I was a GP in St Ives, Cornwall for ten years before moving to New Zealand with my family in 2004.

In the United Kingdom I was a GP trainer and a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. I love the variety my job gives me and am fortunate to work within a great, supportive team at this medical centre.

I aim to give you good family doctoring, a non judgemental approach and to involve you in the decision making around your health needs.

Outside of medicine I have a love of arts and crafts. I paint, draw and create whenever I can!

Peter Davies

Peter Davies – Doctor

I am a British born New Zealander and have lived here since 1992. I am married to a Southland girl and have two children. I split my time between Barrington Medical Centre and Diamond Harbour Surgeries and enjoy the contrast of urban and rural work.

I believe strongly in vaccination and encourage the use of evidence based treatments.

When not at work I enjoy walking the dog and watching movies.

Born and raised in Scotland, I have lived in Christchurch for 15 years. I'm married to a New Zealander and we have two young children. I qualified in 1998 in the UK and completed my General Practice training in 2006.

I have worked in several specialties at Christchurch Public and Hillmorton Hospitals and a number of medical centres across Christchurch. My areas of interest include acute care, mental health, child health and women's health. I enjoy the relationships formed in General Practice and appreciate the value of continuity of care.

Outside of work I enjoy being a mum, keeping fit and making the most of the outdoors in this great country, particularly skiing and running. I'm also partial to a good coffee or a wine with friends. I look forward to meeting you and helping you make well informed choices about your health.

Upon return to Christchurch in February 2011 I started work in General Practice. I greatly enjoy the variety of GP work and hearing about people's lives.

I enjoy mountain biking, swimming and spending time with my family.
