Health Improvement Practitioner and Health Coach

We now offer the services of a full time Health Improvement Practitioner at Barrington Medical Centre. Appointments are FREE.

Our HIP and Health Coach are here to support you with lifestyle support, health planning and more

Health Improvement Practitioners (HIP) are qualified health professionals, with experience in physical and mental health, who have completed specialist training in the Te Tumu Waiora primary mental health model.

The HIP is part of the general practice team and sees people of all ages and stages of life, who are experiencing health related problems that are impacting on daily function and wellbeing. She will support you to make a behavioural change plan based on the issue that is most important to you at the time of being seen.

Karen has the knowledge and skills to support you with:

  • Managing difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Stress, anxiety, depression and low mood
  • Coping with loss
  • Sleep problems
  • Drug and alcohol problems
  • Family or relationship issues, domestic violence, parenting
  • Chronic pain
  • Living with the side-effects of illness and health conditions
  • Navigating gender identity, sexual orientation
  • Social isolation
  • Feeling stuck

Health Coach

This is a FREE service for people of all ages, registered with the practice. Same day appointments are available and can be face to face, via video link or telephone, with follow-up appointments as needed. With a focus on enhancing health and wellbeing and supporting people with long term conditions.

 

The Health Coach is nonclinical and supports patients with self-management and achieving their goals for improved mental and physical wellbeing, lifestyle, or behaviour change.

 

Our Health Coach, Tiana, will create an action plan with you, tailored to meet your health goals. She has experience in supporting people with chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain, chronic long-term illness, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, quitting smoking, sleep, stress women’s health, weight management and a range of other health related conditions or issues.
