Barrington Medical Centre has a number of additional health service providers on site to ensure holistic care for you and your whānau. This also means ease and convenience as you can visit your GP, pick up your prescription, get your blood test and more, all in one easy location.

Many of these services can be contacted directly for appointments, or you may be referred to them by your GP. If you are unsure which services may be beneficial to you, speak with our clinical team. They will be happy to provide guidance and ensure you get the care best suited to your needs.

  • Awanui – Blood Tests

    Awanui is fully committed to the professional care, blood collection and highest quality testing of our patients.

     

    They are fully IANZ accredited and pleased to provide medical laboratory testing for the patients at Barrington Medical Centre.

     

    They are conveniently located in a separate building on site - at the rear of the medical centre and have other locations in Christchurch and New Zealand wide.

     

    The laboratory hours in Athelstan Street are; Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4.15pm and Saturdays 8am to 10:45am.

  • Barrington Eye Care

    Barrington Eye Care Optometrists aim to give you our best in professional eye care using some of the latest technology. We provide thorough eye examinations including retinal photographs, prescribe and supply contact lenses or spectacles, and advise on other optical matters.


    They do a range of examinations including driver's licence screening, cataract assessments as well as the comprehensive eye exam. They sell optical products such as contact lens solutions and eye drops. They have a number of spectacle frames for you to choose from should you need new spectacles and offer a repair service if required.

    Also open late night Thursday until 7pm and Saturday mornings.

  • Barrington Medical Centre Pharmacy

    Pharmacists are available to provide a prescription service and advice. A confidential consulting room is available if required. They also provide patient information leaflets and packs to help people manage their medicines. They meet with the requirements of nursing staff who may come on home visits for patients. They can also provide a delivery service to homes within biking distance for your convenience.

     

    They stock a range of natural and complimentary medicines and can give natural medicine advice from trained staff with referral if appropriate.

     

    Support is available for diabetic patients. Print-outs from blood glucose monitors can be produced in preparation for your doctor's appointment or for your own records.

    An asthma counselling service, emergency contraceptive pill service and weight management consultation is also available.

  • Acupuncture

    Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing that focuses on improving the overall wellbeing of the patient.  A wide range of health problems are successfully treated by the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points. 

     

    Traditional acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (energy), also referred to as Chi and Xue (blood) through distinct pathways or meridians that cover the body. Acupuncture needles are placed into acupoints that stimulate and enhances the free flow of Qi regulating the harmony and general energetic balance of the entire body.     There are three dentists and a hygienist available at Barrington Dental Centre. They are able to help you with all your general dentistry needs, including ACC and the free dental scheme for high school aged children.
